Eiffel Tower

Photo: Eiffel Tower

I promise I’ll have some new photos soon! In the meantime here is a photo overlooking the River Seine that I took on a holiday about six years ago.

In case you’re interested, the Eiffel Tower was built between 1887 and 1889, was originally 312 metres tall (with flag) and until the construction of the Chrysler Building in 1930 was the tallest building in the world. With antenna, the tower is now 324m tall. It’s repainted every 5 years with 50 tons of paint.

The word Seine is derived from Latin and Gaulish roots meaning Sacred River. At 780km long it is France’s second longest river. Its average discharge is 500m3/s (17,660ft3/s)
