Storm Petrel

Storm Petrel

Had a great trip into the island of Mousa to see Storm Petrels, Europe's smallest seabirds. These diminutive birds breed in the walls of Mousa Broch, but are only seen ashore at night as the adult birds swap nest duties under the cover of darkness.

Have to say that watching the 'Stormies' circle an ancient broch, on an uninhabited island, at 1am on a fine Shetland summer night... it really is a bit special.
