Fair Isle is described as a Mecca for birdwatchers, who mainly come for the rare migrant birds. But even the humble Fair Isle Wren photographed above is a decent tick for the twichers, being a subspecies of Wren found only on the island.

Malachy Tallack, journalist and Fair Isle local, posted a humorous article about bird watching in Fair Isle on a blog last year - “Bird Brained?” - and another about the bird observatory - “At the obs”.
