Day Dawn

Photo: Day Dawn

After a tough week it was nice to sit down tonight to watch the second instalment of Simon King’s Shetland Diaries*. His passion for wildlife and for Shetland was again at the fore and I’m sure will have been greatly enjoyed by a few million people up and down the country. It’s also helped boost the numbers looking at the Shetland websites I’m involved with, including Shetland Nature Holidays & Tours and Dowle, Smith & Rutherford Solicitors & Estate Agents. A lot of people have been looking at Shetland property on the DSR website, which has a wide variety of houses for sale - all of which have indoor loos! For a balanced summary of life in Shetland see www.shetland.org/live (and signup to the excellent monthly newsletter).

As for the photo above, it was taken from my bedroom window one weekend morning. Playing around with titles I came up with ‘Day Dawn’, as from my perspective I had photographed it fairly early in the day (don’t look at the EXIF timestamp)! I later found out that in 1981 the fishing boat Day Dawn foundered about 0.7 miles north east of the headland (Helli Ness) shown in the middle of the photo.

* You can watch Episode 2 of Simon King's Shetland Diaries on BBC iPlayer until 25th February: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qsc2h
