Large White Butterfly
A Large White butterfly on a Marsh Thistle in Gulberwick yesterday. Large White is the only species of butterfly which is resident in Shetland.
Laughton Johnston writes in A Naturalist’s Shetland (1999) that the Large White “was said to have colonized via NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institute) cabbages during the Shetland World War”.
